The Denomination We Belong To:
We are part of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) NOT the larger mainline PCUSA.
The PCA is an Evangelical and Reformed Christian denomination founded in 1973 when conservatives in the PCUS left that denomination because fundamental doctrines like the inerrancy of scripture and the Deity of Christ were being attacked while liberal errors and heresies were being actively promoted. We are a smallish denomination of roughly 350,000 members. Here is our denominational webpage: PCA Homepage
What we believe:
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God and that it should be the foundation for all of our life, faith, and worship. The Bible teaches us that our purpose in life is to love the LORD our God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind and our neighbors as ourselves. Within its pages we learn how we can enter into a personal relationship with God and how we can glorify and enjoy Him forever.
The Good News of Jesus Christ
We believe that our first calling is to share the Good News that God so Loved the World that He gave His one and only Son Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have eternal life. Our greatest desire is to preach Christ crucified for sinners and to tell people that through faith in Jesus they can obtain forgiveness of sin, reconciliation with their heavenly Father, peace, and eternal life.
We believe God teaches us how to joyfully worship Him in the Bible, and that His instructions are all we need. Because of this we dont think we should do anything in our worship that God doesnt tell us to do in the Bible, even if it is something that is popular or has become a tradition. At Providence we strive to celebrate, in a spirit of love, adoration, and reverence, worship that is purposely simple and biblical. The heart of our worship is the preaching of the Word of God, prayer, the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and the singing of praise.
We take seriously Christ’s saying that the world would know we are His disciples if we truly love one another. At Providence we are dedicated to building up a family of faith that loves, prays for, encourages, and supports all of it members. We firmly believe that God has broken down the walls of race and ethnicity that once separated believers, and that in Christ we are all one. We strive to take care of our brothers and sisters in need, whether that means providing food for the hungry, free biblical counseling for those in despair, or just doing all that we can to take care of the families of our deployed troops.
We believe that it is extremely important that all of God’s people of every age be constantly growing in grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore we are serious about studying the Bible and the great doctrines of the Reformed Faith that it teaches. We regularly hold Sunday Schools, Bible Studies, and theology classes for kids and young adults where they can learn and grow together.
We believe in building strong families that are founded on the solid rock of Jesus Christ, and not shifting sand. In a world that daily seeks to tear families apart and send children down pathways that will lead to pain and destruction, it is our desire that the marriages of our members would always be growing closer and stronger and that our children would be brought up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
